Customer reviews, whether positive or negative, can massively impact your business and its performance. The more and better reviews you have, the more likely you’ll entice new customers to use your services or buy your products. While it’s pretty obvious that having reviews for your business is a good thing, it can sometimes be mildly difficult to start obtaining reviews from your customers. So, lets explore just how you get more legitimate reviews.
Step 1 – Get a Review System
The very first step in obtaining more reviews for your business is to have a review system in place. You can accomplish this in a few different ways. You could build your own review system through the internet. You could also just simply use a well-known online review system that is already in place (like Yelp or Facebook). After you have set up your review system, the next thing to focus on is getting your customers to leave you reviews at all!
Step 2 – Make it Easy to Leave a Review for Your Business
One of the best ways to funnel your customers to your review system is to just give them several different places in which they can give you a review. If you run a website, you can consider adding buttons that link to review sites and/or fields and buttons that prompt users to leave you a review. The one thing to keep in mind is that the more places and chances you give your customers to give you a review, the more likely you will obtain more positive reviews.
Step 3 – Ask Your Customers (At the Right Time)
One of the most overlooked and probably easiest to accomplish ways in which a business owner can gain more reviews is to simply ask their customers to leave them one. However, you don’t want to just ask your customers randomly. Some examples of when it is wise to ask your customers for reviews include:
Ask after your customer has experienced something positive with your company (like after making a sale/providing a service)
Request a review whenever they re-purchase something from your business
Ask your consumers to drop a review whenever they tag your brand on social media
Ask for a review whenever a customer refers another customer to you
Step 4 – Give Your Customers Incentives to Leave Reviews
Another great way to garnish more reviews from your satisfied customers is to provide them with incentives for leaving them. Some things that have been shown to work well as review incentives include:
But, be careful. Don’t just incentivize your customers to leave positive reviews by asking them only after you’re already sure that they have been satisfied with your service/product. If you do this, you may get flagged for review gating and that can negatively impact all the work you’ve done to gain those sweet, sweet reviews.
Step 5 – Respond to ALL Your Reviews
One of the other often overlooked aspects of gaining more legitimate reviews for your site or business is to just simply respond to every review that gets left for you. It doesn’t have to be a long, wordy response, either. A simple “thank you for leaving a review” will often suffice. And, if your customer leaves a negative review, responding to it can help show other customers that you take those kinds of things seriously and that you put the satisfaction of the customer first.
